If you have been into internet marketing for a while, frequent in some of the more popular internet marketing focused forums, then you will not doubt have come across the term mini site. For a while now the popularity of using a mini site as an internet marketing tool has been growing. But what are mini sites?

o    It’s Small – It is exactly what the name implies, a very small website, usually consisting of around a dozen pages of content, that have been designed around a specific market niche. They are usually put together using some form of lightweight, SEO friendly CMS such as WordPress, or are created from a set of HTML templates.

o    It’s Streamlined – Everything about one of these sites is designed to sell a product. Each page will contain hooks to the product, and the better minisites will create a sales funnel, leading the visitor through the pages of content, convincing them to buy the product on the way through. Finally, the last part of the funnel is the sale itself. More advanced mini sites will also feature up sells, cross sells and a range of other advanced sales techniques.

o    It’s Search Engine Friendly – The whole idea behind it is to create a small website that will attract a large amount of visitors. For this reason the owner of the site will ensure that all of the mini site content is written to confirm to SEO guidelines regarding key phrase density. The owner will have undertaken a period of key word research and will build the site around the most profitable of these.

o    It’s Sexy – Most mini sites are designed to be very visually appealing, and the overall theme of the mini site will be very visible to the first time visitor. Extensive use of niche related images, along with high impact sales copy makes a mini site into an aggressive, psychologically evocative sales tool.

Overall, setting up a mini site around a profitable niche is a great way for an internet marketer to exploit certain smaller, higher profit markets. A mini site is fairly quick to set up, and once finished will remain active and working for a very long time.
