Links, Keywords, and On-Page Search Engine Optimization

September 9, 2010 by Randy Rater

There is something that we can do to enhance our on-page SEO. And that is? We can put our main keywords in as a link to another page on our website, or perhaps to another of our own websites if preferred. This is a good way to just give us another notch on our board or however you want to say it – add another point on our score-board.

Let me show you how to put a link in, that will include our desired keywords. Its a fairly simple little piece of coding called html and goes along these lines…

a h r e f = ” w w w. coloradolawfirm.com / colorado-law-firm ” >Colorado lawyer. No need to worry about what it means. Just have a brief look at the make-up and try to work it out that way. The w w w.coloradolawfirm. com is the domain name of our site. The /colorado-law-firm part is the page name or if you prefer – page title. And Colorado lawyer is the keywords we want to use in our link. These are the keywords we are trying to rank for, so there is the first link “to” our site with our chosen keywords. More about this when I discuss off-page SEO – coming up next.

There is another thing to make a quick mention of before I conclude on-page SEO. If you have images on your webpage then its good practice to either pop a link in that image or simply pop the keywords in the image. Make sense?

I don’t mean introduce this text as part of the image, which can then be seen by a website visitor. Rather, introduce this text into the image so that it is not seen by the webpage visitor. There are various ways to do this and it depends on the platform you are using to build your website. So for example, if you are using WordPress.org to build your website, then you would introduce this code in the page html format. It sounds complex I know, but don’t worry about it.

How to Successfully Run Multiple Blogs

September 9, 2010 by Thomas Sinfield

I know a lot of you have more than one blog. I have 3 – ok 4 (I am just launching a new one).

Why Do I Have More Than One Blog?

I have read on a fair few blogs now that say the successful bloggers, the ones that are making the big dollars from blogging, are the ones that have multiple blogs.

This got me thinking about what I want from blogging, and you know what? I want to be successful. I want to be able to make a full time income from my blogging and I know that even when this blog gets to a certain level of success, I will still need more to be happy with my blogging income.

Which is why I am looking at really focusing on working on a few of my blogs that are currently very neglected, and also going to start a completely new blog as well.

Now before you get all worried that I will stop posting here, and stop being so active in our great blogging community – I won’t. I have been looking at ways to grow these blogs with as little effort as possible, because I don’t want it affecting this blog at all.

So Here Are A Few Tips On How To Successfully Run Multiple Blogs – Without Neglecting Them

1. Learn Time Management I think that if we all for one day decided to stop and write down where every minute of our day was being spent, we would be shocked at how much of our day was being wasted. Whether it be playing games, checking our emails to many times a day, obsessively checking traffic and affiliate stats, or msn.

What if we could use this time better and start spending it on building our blogs – I wonder how much more successful our blogs would be then!

2. Put A Focus On SEO Traffic This is something I have never done, but something I will be doing from now on. SEO traffic makes sense, because it means you do not have to constantly be looking for new traffic – you already have a steady flow coming from quality keywords/phrases.

With my blogs I will be finding quality keywords and phrases that are search a lot – yet have little competition. If I can write targeted posts to the keywords and phrases, my chances of listing well in the search engines and receiving search engine traffic daily is great. This will especially benefit my other blogs as it means that I will not have to spend much time commenting and marketing the blogs – my main traffic source will be search engine traffic.

3. Take Scheduled Breaks From Your Blogs And Your Computer When you are writing and promoting multiple blogs, writing a couple of posts daily – you are risking the chance of burning out quickly. Something that I am planning on doing starting next week is blogging a 5 day week. Weekends will be personal time, where I do not even turn my computer on. You might think this would be detrimental to my blogs, but I think it will have the opposite affect.I think that with the time away from my blogs and computer on a weekly basis, I will be: * More inspired * Less prone to burnout * More time for friends and family

Four Benefits of Blogging

September 9, 2010 by Caleb Anderson

A blog is a journal that is accessible on the Internet. The process of blog updating is blogging and individuals who maintain them are bloggers. Typically updated daily using various software programs that allow people with little or no technical background to update and maintain them. Also, postings on a blog are set up in chronological order featuring current postings prominently.

The name blog is an abbreviated form of weblog or web log. To write, maintain or to post an article on available blogs is also termed as blogging. They may consist of text, hypertext, pictures and links.

Blogs posted by individuals undergo modifications regularly. These can consist of various topics. In fact, there are blogs for every topic that a human brain can imagine. The topics can range from politics, business, sports, culture, and entertainment to every human-interest story that takes place everyday.

How to get started?

Layout
Web surfers judge the effectiveness of blogs by the type of layout the show. The only difference between a common blog and a professional blog is the layout. Even if it is not high in content, people will think that it is of high quality because of the layout. Moreover, even before they read the content, they will assume the content in it as good, because they are already impressed with the layout. Hence, to get started prepare an impressive layout for your blog.

Promote your blog
People come to know about blogs only when they see them. Therefore, to start promoting your’s, you can include signatures between forums, social networking sites, mailing lists, and other online communities.

Content is your ruler
If individuals perceive blog as a realm, content will be the ruler and bloggers are the king. Content controls every aspect of blogging. People look up for information on the Internet. For that, content to satisfy visitors need is essential. If your’s satisfies their requirements, they might visit it more regularly.

Regular blogging
Make fresh post at regular intervals considering time. It is necessary to post relevant information constantly to keep your blogs updated.

Benefits of Blogging:

1. Video clippings of sport events like football or soccer games, basketball, field and track events are included in blogs by schools to raise school spirit and encourage students’ involvement.

2. Further, events like dance recitals, science fairs, and awards can also be encouraged via blogs.

3. There are some blogs for publishers that are free of charge or are either available at very low-cost. On the other hand, some web sites allow online marketers to post blogs and place a link on their sites.

4. There is a huge potential to market on the Internet through blogging. Out of the estimated 100,000, if it is not possible to grab the attention of every reader, it is certainly feasible to catch the attentions of at least, say 100 readers.

What Should You Blog About? Advice on Blogging

September 9, 2010 by Maclauren Zuiderduin

So what do you blog about? Many folks end up getting this writers block mentality when it comes to choosing a topic or just trying to brainstorm about what to blog about. If you are not sure what to blog about, then you can get some ideas by merely doing a bit of research and educating yourself about some of the benefits to blogging and finding out what other folks enjoy blogging about.

Some folks find themselves asking the question of what exactly IS a blog? It is not a new term but it is one that is gaining momentum and popularity quickly. Very simply, a blog is like a journal of your opinions and thoughts or ideas. Technically it’s a website that has your journal entries or better known as your “blog” entry. These are simply just posts that you leave in a chronological order that cascades down from the most recent to the oldest. The popularity of of blogging is increasing everyday and at a very fast pace.

For the most part it’s a way of getting your opinion and ideas out to the world and sharing those with fellow readers that can leave comments on your blogs allowing you to interact with others on the Internet. In short, you can talk about really anything, and many people do. Topics range from their crappy job to their pets and family members.

People blog about their personal opinions of current events and international affairs. It’s very similar to keeping a journal but think of it more of a diary that you leave open for the world to read. They are filled with all the personal aspirations and thoughts from a persons mind and sometimes run around very randomly

Many people have the hobby of reading these blogs while others take up blogging as a hobby and enjoy posting their thoughts and feelings for others to read. In a nut shell, you can let your imagination run rampant and write just about anything your hearts desire. It’s really a form of personal expression and can be about how you feel which provides a therapeutic output for some bloggers.

Blogs can be used as a fabulous marketing tool such as I use them for, and can make a residual income if you choose to blog for these purposes. People that wish to make their footprint and in some way touch another persons life with their own experiences or stories often blog daily. You can use a blog for anything and the sky’s the limit.

Talk about your political or religious views. Blog about your job, your daily commute or your relationship success and failures. Blog about cooking and share recipes in your blog. You can blog about your hobby or your business. Overall, blog about ANYTHING!

I hope this helps with the writers block and gives you a fresh inside look at what to blog about. The ideas and topics are literally endless and to be honest you could come up with enough topics in 5 minutes that would keep you blogging for years to come.

Happy blogging!

How to Setup a Squeeze Page Inside WordPress

September 9, 2010 by Jerry Lucado

Are you new to Internet Marketing and have a new WordPress blog and just don’t understand yet how to put a Squeeze page or Sales page on your blog?

You see, there are many things your Lead Opt-In box should say. Just Google it and you will find numerous articles on how to craft such a page. A catchy headline, bullet points, a “free give away” are just the common practices. But this is not the problem you have!

However, if you are new and don’t want to simply put a box on your front page or go through the hassle and cost of another domain/hosting account, you just can’t figure out how to have a slick looking, separate squeeze page that resides inside your blog.

Most WordPress themes only have pages and posts. But they include your header, footer, sidebar and all the other stuff that are just too cluttery looking and distracting for a squeeze page. There is a solution!

Simply create your squeeze page with a free html editor, and then upload it to your server using a FTP program like FileZilla. Now your blog has a new, unseen page and you are in business.

  1. Use a free open source software like KompoZer as a html editor to create your squeeze page. KompoZer can be a little finicky, but is mostly straight forward. However, I do not recommend using its auto FTP for uploading. I copied its source code for text, pictures, links, auto-responder image, etc.
  2. Paste the squeeze page source code from KompoZer into notepad and save it as a php file to your desktop.
  3. Then FTP upload the new php file to your domain server’s html_public directory using FileZilla.
  4. Now you have a new Squeeze page hidden from navigation inside your blog.

Understand that you cannot add content to this page from WordPress but you can re-do anything inside KompoZer. Just create a new source code and upload the newer php file again.

It is fairly simple to create a squeeze page inside WordPress once you know the steps and are willing to suffer through some trial and error. You can create a sales page too and any other special pages this way.

Enjoy.

Incredibly Practical Tip to Optimize Your WordPress Blog

September 9, 2010 by Shanna Vilmar

What I am about to share to you may be an oldie approach to optimizing your WordPress blog, but taking it for granted could greatly affect the performance of your blog- de-clutter your sidebar!

Bloggers cannot avoid taking on new projects, widgets, and promotions over a year and throws all of them in the sidebar where they get out of control. The solution, de-cluttering.

Here are what you have to focus on when de-cluttering:

Outdated materials: Check if the ads, promotion, and contest you have on your sidebar are still legitimate.

Outdated links: Check the links on your blog roll and see if they are still active. Your blog roll may already be built-up with inactive links.

Too many links: If you can no longer manage the number of links on your blog roll, maybe you can start limiting or rotating the links that you show on your blog roll. Try providing a page just for the list of your links. To do that, you can change your links display code with wp_list_bookmarks (‘orderby=rand&limit=10′). With that, your links can be randomly shown in batches of ten.

Another thing to consider when de-cluttering is to set your sidebar priority. Place on top those that you want to achieve the most attention, as well as the essential and time sensitive ones.

You should also try to look if the information you have on your sidebar will be beneficial to your blog visitors or you just placed it there because you find it cute. Not that I am against cutesy, but it may be consuming precious screen real estate.

So the next time you decide on putting something in your sidebar, consider that it should be something that serves a purpose to yourself and your blog visitors. Ask the question, “What purpose would this serve me and my readers?”

That WordPress optimization technique is simple but could do wonders to your WordPress blog performance. But that is just one of the many ways you could do to optimize your blog and eventually drive more traffic your site.

How Often Should You Backup Your WordPress Database?

September 9, 2010 by Sean Platt

Have you ever wondered how often it is really necessary to make a full backup of your WordPress database?

There is no answer that is completely right, though the more often the better, especially if you are running a blog as a business. Your best results will be most dependent on how often your content tends to get updated, as well as how consistently there are changes made to the site architecture itself.

A multi-author site, or site that has heavy traffic and is updated several times a day, receiving massive numbers of comments might need to have backups scheduled every hour on the hour. On the other hand, a smaller site with minimal changes could easily survive on just one backup per week.

For the majority of WordPress blogs, one daily database backup will suffice, and an hourly backup could even but an unneeded strain on the server, especially at busy times of the day.

Folders within the WordPress framework harboring files such as content, themes and plugins need regular backup on a consistent basis. If you only make changes to your theme or plugins once in a blue moon, and rarely upload media (if at all), then you can survive with less frequent backups.

It doesn’t matter how often you decide to backup your WordPress database and all its associated files, but it is important that you have some sort of backup solution in place to protect you from the unforeseen and potentially disastrous.

And if you plan to make any changes to your site, make sure you have a backup beforehand!
