Name Calling

After a couple of years of doing this and listening to this expert and that guru I am here to tell you that most of them don’t know shit about blogging.  Oh some of them know a thing about SEO or marketing, but very few of them understand that a blog is meant to convey a message to a person.  There are two things that convey that message first and foremost, the name and the description, these can be and often are independent of your domain name.

First the name of your blog is its brand identity.  It needs to be something people will remember for it to have any meaning.  It also helps if it tells something about your blog.  It isn’t important if your blog is the same name as your domain name, though that helps extend the brand even further.  Take for example this blog.  Blogging For Noobs tells you a lot about the kind of information you will find here and it is easy to remember and type.  The longer I have blogged the more I realized that the name wasn’t very searchable so I added to it.  Blogging For Noobs became Blogging for Noobs: What is a blog…  It has both a memorable title and searchable title that doesn’t leave any doubt who my intended audience is.

The second message is the description.  This is the absolute best place to tell the world what your blog is about and make it searchable.  I think this is actually the more important of the two messages and one most bloggers and theme designers misss out on.  If you look to the new themes I am designing you will see my site description first and foremost at the top of the page.  Basically what I am telling you is what you have to say about your blog is more important than what you call your blog.  This is true of most products you use.  Say the word Pepsi for example and people know who you are, but unless they add one of the famous taglines you aren’t sure what Pepsi is being spoken about.  Is it the Pepsi Co company which owns dozens of brand names or will it be that cold refreshing refreshing can of goodness you have chilling in the cooler on a hot day.  Name your blog so it is memorable, but do everything in your power to maximize the description for accuracy.

Keep an eye out for my new themes meant to maximize this naming advantage.

Back-links are the pure back bone of Page Rank and Link Popularity, the more you have the better and more impressive it will be for your website. Now, first of all you need to be familiar with blogs and comments because hundreds of blogs have a widget on their blog called the ‘Top Commentators Widget’. This widget provides a do-follow back-link to the commentator as a reward for commenting. Now the main thing is that each blog has at least 200 Articles or most have 500 or more articles which are regularly indexed by Google. Dropping a few comments, let’s say 5 or 10 can get you on the list for probably 1 week.

The top commentators widget is displayed on every page on almost 95% of the blogs with the Top commentators Widget, so you get a do-follow backlink from each page of the blog which is visible to search engines and public. If you comment on 10 blogs a day and get on the Top Commentators widget of each, you get thousands of back-links! Let’s do a little math: [Read more]
